Call it the theory of crushed hopes. From this perspective the election of Barack Obama can be viewed as the moment of highest risk for the nation.
Trust is a central element in any democracy. Citizens give up a certain amount of power over their own lives in the belief that the government will act in their interests. Without trust, people become unwilling to cede power to government. Without trust, government itself eventually becomes ineffective, or provokes active conflict, as people lose confidence that leaders will be able to fulfill their responsibilities. Government statements come to be viewed as meaningless propaganda. In this extreme situation, government policies designed to promote the long-term health of the society are ignored as individuals worry about their own immediate well-being. The social fabric that holds the society together begins to unravel. This occurred in the late years of the Soviet Union when there was an extraordinarily high degree of cynicism toward the government. The government of Louis XVI was almost universally mistrusted before the French Revolution. At the time of the American Revolution the colonists lost trust in the British Parliament.

STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!
My God, are we all so stupid to really believe the total BULL SHIT about Obama and his previously rather astute media controllers in the executive wing of the White House failing to go through the proper channels to have this very, very, very significant, perhaps even bordering on revolution inducing speech not aired simultaneously on the major networks? Yet, of course it will be aired live on the Spanish speaking networks and likely throughout Latin America as well. But the major broadcasters, all of whom have had their proverbial noses in a place that only perhaps friends of Jeremiah Wright have ever visited, are now so adamantly showing their “independence” by throwing off the mantel of the total sycophants and supporters of the liberal fascist agenda, a major part of which will be revealed by the ONE tonight, and everyone believes this? This whole charade is a win-win for Obama and the MSM, it should be so damn obvious.
It makes me sick thinking how gullible and easily manipulated we all are by our overlords in Washington. From every corner of the political spectrum there is general consensus that Obama and the Obamatites once again showed their incompetence by not interrupting Americans addicted consumption of their favorite television opiates by introducing an immigration executive order that most certainly is against the supposedly democratic will of the majority of the American public. No, folks, this is a well planned, extremely well executed optimal distribution of the crowning achievement of Emperor Obama–which is the chaos that is inevitable from his actions tonight. No additional disgruntled Americans! Why further poke the docile ignorant by disturbing their gaze into the vapidness of the High Def Samsung’s and risk actually even a modest increase in the public’s anemic levels of civic testosterone?
And besides, the timing is also perfect as the imminent, perhaps almost coincident, release of the verdict in Ferguson and the ensuing riots and media excitement (our own version of the real Hunger Games) will draw all of our enfeebled minds away from the egregiousness of the unconstitutional effrontery to what remains of the American civic virtues.
“In 2006, Bush gave a 17 minute speech that was televised by all three networks that was about deploying 6000 national guard troops to the border. Obama is making a 10 minute speech that will have a vastly greater impact on the issue. And none of the networks are doing it. We can’t believe they were aggrieved that we announced this on Facebook,” a senior administration official told POLITICO.
When the president wants to make a prime-time address, White House officials will reach out to the big networks like ABC, NBC, and CBS, to gauge whether they would consider running the speech live before putting in a formal request for airtime.
