Lena Dunham is an odious, crass and obnoxious pig of a woman(?) and Rolling Stones witch hunt of a story on an alleged, apparently totally fabricated rape on the campus of the University of Virginia is a total disgrace. Nothing more need be said, but if you are not up no the issues, the following should help.
There are two separate controversies this week over rape stories that have been challenged by critics. Both stories involve leading U.S. universities. Unlike the Duke Lacrosse controversy, neither school is accused of wrongdoing. Rolling Stone magazine has apologized for shocking failures in reporting a sensational rape story where a woman named Jackie alleged that she was gang raped at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house, but the Washington Post reported on discrepancies in the account, including the fact that no party was held at the fraternity on the day in question. In the meantime, Lena Dunham’s story of being raped in college has been challenged as containing discrepancies and the man who has faced the most accusations is now considering a libel lawsuit against the author and director.
Lena Dunham ‘Raped by a Republican’ Story in Bestseller Collapses Under Scrutiny
In her just-released memoir, Not That Kind of Girl, Lena Dunham describes her alma mater, Oberlin College, as “a liberal arts haven in the cornfields of Ohio.” After a month-long investigation that included more than a dozen interviews, a trip to the Oberlin campus, and hours spent poring through the Oberlin College archives, her description of the campus remains the only detail Breitbart News was able to verify in Dunham’s story of being raped by a campus Republican named Barry.
On top of the name Barry, which Dunham does not identify as a pseudonym (more on the importance of this below), Dunham drops close to a dozen specific clues about the identity of the man she alleges raped her as a 19-year-old student. Some of the details are personality traits like his being a “poor loser” at poker. Other details are quite specific. For instance, Dunham informs us her rapist sported a flamboyant mustache, worked at the campus library, and even names the radio talk show he hosted.
To be sure we get the point, on three occasions Dunham tells her readers that her attacker is a Republican or a conservative, and a prominent one at that — no less than the “campus’s resident conservative.”
Lena Dunham’s Republican Rapist Almost Certain to Rape Again
According to a study published by the University of Michigan, chances are as high as 80% that the man Girls star Lena Dunham claims raped her has and will repeat his crime. As of now, there is no word that Dunham plans on filing charges to get “Barry” off the street.
The alleged rape dates back to when Dunham was a 19-year-old college student (she’s now 28) at Ohio’s Oberlin College. According to Dunham, she was drunk and high on Xanax and cocaine when Barry (whom she describes as a campus Republican) sexually assaulted her.
Dunham says she had no idea she had been raped until she described the incident to others, including her roommate at the time, and years later to the writers for her HBO show Girls. Dunham says it took years to come to terms with the rape. Only now is she able to discuss it publicly.
