If men could learn from history, what lessons it might teach us! But passion and party blind our eyes, and light which experience gives is a lantern on the stern, which shines only on the waves behind us. — Coleridge
Needless to say, the tragic view of human life is nowhere to be found any longer in our popular culture and discourse. It is too bleak, too “defeatist,” too counter to the cheery myth of unending progress and instant gratification dominating our worldview. Our therapeutic vision tells us all is possible. We can live without risk, without loss, without suffering. Every desire can be gratified, every pain can be alleviated, every limit can be transcended, and every happiness can be achieved by everybody. As Satan promised Eve— and as Joyce Brothers also promised—we can become gods.
==Plagues of the Mind: The New Epidemic of False Knowledge (Thornton, Bruce S.)
Bertrand Russell wrote in his 1951 book, The Impact of Science on Society: Education should aim at destroying free will so that pupils thus schooled, will be incapable throughout the rest of their lives of thinking or acting otherwise than as their schoolmasters would have wished … Influences of the home are obstructive; and in order to condition students, verses set to music and repeatedly intoned are very effective … … It is for a future scientist to make these maxims precise and to discover exactly how much it costs per head to make children believe that snow is black. When the technique has been perfected, every government that has been in charge of education for more than one generation will be able to control its subjects securely without the need of armies or policemen.
The coming ‘technetronic society’. He (Russell) said: The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values. Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen and maintain up-to-date complete files containing even the most personal information about the citizen. These files will be subject to instantaneous retrieval by the authorities.
==The Perception Deception – Part Two (Icke, David)
Russell wrote these words in 1952!
Enhanced evolution or elite plan, it does matter of course, but the elites resistance to the forces of democracy, the voices of the people will be the same now regardless. One is more evil than the other, but to the people of this former nation, now simply a technocratic State what is the real difference? There will be a strangulation of all decent. It has already happened.
An ancient Greek, whose name escapes me, once said that freedom of choice was like a dog tied behind a horse drawn cart, no matter the length of the tether that dog must always follow the cart. The longer the rope, the more freedom the dog seemed to have to roam about. The tether on the American people is now very, very short.
Ever since the 1960’s people power anti-war movement the system and all who benefit from it and control it have been, at first subtly and now brazenly, dismantling the capacity of the masses to form protest movements. Even those that are utilized to support the power elites grip around our necks, such as the recent violence of the #Black Lives Matter protests are monitored and controlled from above. They serve a purpose and it is not the well-being of the black population, despite all appearances and the increasingly racial biases evidenced by Obama. The President could really care less about racial issues, but the false memes and propaganda tools of the State media will continue to fan the flames of racial division and violence, as intended.
A divided citizenry is a weak one. Unable to form truly deep community and national responses to the rapid acceleration in the destruction of all American freedoms, but for the ones that serve the elites ends, the coercive police state tyranny can proceed unabated. Anyone who believes that the powerful of wealth and governance are likely to cede the ground gained over the past decades, with Obama simply being the one now carrying the hammer pounding nails into the coffin of American liberty, think again.
Our democracy is a total con, a totally rigged game that even with the light of truth breaking through the fog, rare though it be, will never be allowed to represent the will of the people ever again. At least as the system is now configured. Jefferson ( yes the slave owning Jefferson!) was absolutely correct, revolutions need to happen frequently to cleanse the corruption of the power structure away and return governance back to the people from which all state legitimacy is derived.
We are in the last legs of even the mirage of democracy and this process has been going on for far longer than imagined, even by those left that still have a modicum of an independent mind.
We’re living in two worlds, you and I.There’s the world we see (or are made to see) and then there’s the one we sense (and occasionally catch a glimpse of), the latter of which is a far cry from the propaganda-driven reality manufactured by the government and its corporate sponsors, including the media.Indeed, what most Americans perceive as life in America—privileged, progressive and free—is a far cry from reality, where economic inequality is growing, real agendas and real power are buried beneath layers of Orwellian doublespeak and corporate obfuscation, and “freedom,” such that it is, is meted out in small, legalistic doses by militarized police armed to the teeth.
