111 countries ban the use of cluster bombs, except Israel, Russia, China, India, Pakistan and the US.
Though, the Obama administration restricted sales of cluster bomb sales to Saudi Arabia it was driven by international pressures, not empathy for the death of civilians, many of them children. The great humanitarian, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize prior to his targeted death campaign by drone, the destruction and murder of Libya and the chaos of Syria already sold a $1,000,000,000 (One Billion Dollars) worth of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia, much to the horror and blood spilled in Yemen. As he winds down his Presidency the window dressing and preaching will continue despite the odiousness of the man’s hypocrisy.
Yes, the republicans and all who suckle on the prodigious teets of the Military Industrial Complex in America are also to blame for the years of deaths and maimings ahead from unexploded bombs, as well as those occurred during this war of aggression by our proxy the House of Saud. I have no doubts that the delay in sales implemented by Obama will be obviated when the bloodthirsty War Hawk in the pantsuits becomes President.
THE HOUSE ON THURSDAY narrowly defeated a measure that would have banned the transfer of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia, but the closeness of the vote was an indication of growing congressional opposition to the conduct of the U.S.-backed, Saudi-led bombing coalition in Yemen.
The vote was mostly along party lines, with 200 Republicans – and only 16 Democrats – heeding the Obama administration’s urging to vote against the measure. The vote was 204-216.
“The Department of Defense strongly opposes this amendment,” said Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., chairman of the House Committee on Defense Appropriations, during floor debate. “They advise us that it would stigmatize cluster munitions, which are legitimate weapons with clear military utility.”
